Training Questions
Am I required to attend an Ohio Ethics Law training session?
State law does not require attendance at an Ethics Law training session. The statute requires that the Ethics Commission make educational options available. This information allows those in the public and private sectors to understand and comply with the Ethics Law.
State employees are currently required per Executive Order 2019-11D to participate in some form of annual Ethics training. In addition, some local government agencies have internal training policies that may require training regarding the Ethics Law.
Can I get proof of completion for Ohio Ethics Law training?
Yes. Attendees of our live webinars and learners who complete the Ohio Ethics Law E-Course receive a certificate of completion that can be provided to a supervisor or HR department.
E-Course learners: save your certificate immediately. The Ethics Commission does not receive or retain any record of your certificate of completion.
On-demand videos in the On-Demand Training Library and the Six-Part E-Course Series do not provide certificates — they are intended for general learning.
How do we schedule a speaker from the Ethics Commission?
Contact Susan Willeke at susan.willeke@ethics.ohio.gov or (614) 466-7090 to request a speaker.
The Commission offers in-person sessions ranging from 30-minute addresses to 3-hour workshops, but requires a minimum of 70 attendees for travel outside Columbus.
What do you recommend for small groups with limited time?
Our free Six-Part E-Course Series is a great fit. Six 10-15 minute e-courses, each covering a key Ethics Law topic — view one every other month at a staff or board meeting and the primary provisions are covered within a year.
Our live webinars and Ohio Ethics Law E-Course are also available as self-study options which provide proof of completion.
Does the Ethics Commission offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE)?
Yes. The Ohio Ethics Commission sponsors CLE seminars for public practice attorneys each year. The seminars are offered free of charge and are approved for 2.5 hours of attorney professional conduct instruction. For the current CLE schedule or to register for a class, visit our Continuing Legal Education Seminars page.
Join our CLE email list by contacting Susan Willeke at susan.willeke@ethics.ohio.gov with "CLE" in the subject line.
Can I earn CEUs through Ethics Commission training?
Our webinars and Ohio Ethics Law E-Course have been pre-approved for 1.0 hour of General Continuing Legal Education credit for attorneys (eligible once per calendar year) and 1.0 contact hour of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for CPAs through the Ohio Accountancy Board.
For other Continuing Education Units, please check with your appropriate licensing board to determine course eligibility for credit.
